American hip-hop entrepreneur Sean Puffy Combs, also known by his stage name Puff Daddy, was found guilty on two counts of transporting to engage in prostitution. This is a serious legal setback that might result in his serving about two years in prison.
The decision represents a sharp decline in popularity for a person who made a living through fashion, music, and a lavish lifestyle, even if they were exonerated of the more serious allegations of sex trafficking and racketeering that carried a life sentence.
After three days of heated deliberations, a Manhattan jury returned a decision exonerating Combs of the most serious charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy involving his former long-term lover Cassie Ventura and a woman known only as “Jane.”
Combs, 55, is spared the possibility of serving the remainder of his life behind bars because of this partial triumph. The maximum penalty for criminal charges under the federal Mann Act is still 10 years per case, though.

The defense team for Combs has already stated that they expect a sentence that is significantly shorter. His attorneys have referenced sentencing guidelines in court documents, estimating that he will serve a sentence of between 21 to 27 months, or two years, in jail.
His legal team also contested a move by prosecutors to convince Judge Subramanian not to set bail Puff Daddy who they argue remains a danger to the community because he could still commit prostitution crimes and because in June 2024, three months before his arrest and while he was aware he was under federal investigation — he allegedly “brutally assaulted” Jane.
“With all due respect, that suggestion is unsupported,” Combs’ attorneys wrote. “The government had, for an extended period of time, a pen register on his phone. Mr. Combs never called any potential escorts or prostitutes, nor did he make any effort to arrange meetings with escorts or prostitutes, nor was he with Jane in New York.”
